Across this part of Chicago, the housing stock runs from 1938 up through 1994, with most of it centered around 1964. That means a lot of the garage doors still on these properties are original steel sectional doors from that build era, or a first-generation replacement put in sometime in the 80s or 90s. The hardware on these is usually extension springs mounted along the horizontal track rather than a torsion bar overhead, especially on the older end of that range. We see galvanized rollers worn down to the shaft, and openers that predate the safety reversal sensors required on anything sold new today. If your door still has a chain-drive opener with no photo-eye sensors near the floor, it's likely from before the mid-90s and due for a swap, not just a repair. We don't try to patch openers that old when a part fails inside the head unit - parts for units that far back usually aren't stocked anymore, and chasing them costs more than a new opener installed.

That puts it on the near side of our coverage compared to the outer suburbs we also reach, like Brookfield or La Grange at 8 to 10 miles out. Being closer in means less drive time between calls, which matters when a spring lets go on a Saturday and you need someone out the same day rather than waiting for a slot later in the week.
